Pastor Mark - Independent, traditional Baptist Church North Ft Myers

Pastor Mark Leland

I was born in Portland Oregon, Graduated from Canby Union High school of Canby Oregon, in 1978, I joined the United States Air Force that same year. After 20 years of service I retired from active duty in December, 1998. Some of my military assignments were: the 374th SMS and the 308th SMW out of Little Rock AFB, Arkansas; Ghedi Torre, an Air Base in Italy. Then off to HQ USAFE at Ramstien Air base, Germany for 10 years; finally retiring at Moody AFB, Georgia.

After retiring from the Air Force, I attended Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida; completing my Bachelor of Arts degree. I have always sought to be involved in God’s ministry wherever I was, some of the areas I served in were: Sunday school teacher, Sunday school and Jr. church director, fold ministry director, song leader, bus ministry, pre-teen and the teen ministries. I was willing to serve anywhere my pastor needed even if I just swept and mopped, cleaned bathrooms or cut the grass, you name it… I was willing.

In Nov 2009, our gracious LORD allowed me to put all that experience to work; honoring me with becoming the Pastor of Slater Road Baptist Church in North Fort Myers, along with my wife. We have enjoyed ministering to the community through this local church. We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for this great group of Christians here at our church. We are looking forward to reaching lost souls, mending and building families, and growing disciples for Christ.

I have been married to my best friend since November 1979. The Lord has blessed us with five daughters and three grandchildren.

I was saved when I was 16 years old.  I credit our Lord working through Mr. Lack who was teaching a Sunday school class that planted the seed that grew into the saving knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ. However; I spent my first years as a new Christian wandering. With no church, no instruction and no mentors it seemed all I had was the Holy Spirit to keep me safe. It was not until I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base that I attended a Fundamental, Bible Believing, Baptist Church; Rheinland Baptist Church under Dr. Gib Wood. It was here that I was baptized and my wife and daughter were saved and baptized.  At Rheinland Baptist I learned and grew spiritually; and here I began to see, first hand, what was happening back in America; the slow watering down of the fundamental teaching of the Bible.  My goal and heart’s desire as a pastor is to help restore the knowledge and faith in that old King James 1611 Bible; doing this through the preaching and teaching of the old fashion Biblical truth.  I want to help families and individuals hold fast to the doctrines that make and keep Christians Holy. It is my belief that by practicing these biblical truths; it will bring joy and fulfillment to one’s life, as it has mine.

My wife, our staff and myself look forward to meeting you and being a part of your life as we walk and work together with the Lord.
